# The Living Cell

A living cell is not merely chemistry. The mystery of life is more profound.  
  
A cell contains:

- information storage (DNA)
- error correction
- communication networks
- energy production
- transport systems
- molecular machines
- self-repair
- replication

A bacterium contains millions of coordinated molecular events every second.  
  
The remarkable thing is that life is hierarchical:

- Quantum fields
  - Atoms
    - Molecules
      - Proteins
        - Organelles
          - Cells
            - Tissues
              - Organs
                - Organisms
                  - Minds

At each level new properties emerge:

- Meaning emerges from matter.
- Consciousness emerges from brains.
- Culture emerges from consciousness.

And then humans spend time arguing on social media.
