Snake Path to Knowledge
Today I rode my bicycle on the UCSD campus. I followed the Snake Path created by Alexis Smith in 1992. It begins in a small Garden of Eden and ends at the Geisel (Dr Seuss) Library.
It represents the story of Adam and Eve following the advice of the Serpent (Satan) as the path from Innocence to Knowledge.
In other words, mankind would have remained blissfully ignorant had not the Serpent shown us the path to knowledge of good and evil.
How amazing it is to find truth hidden in plain sight!
I assume most would interpret this as moving from archaic superstition to modern enlightenment by the collective knowledge represented in libraries.
The irony is in the deeper knowledge which is completely missed. It is those who mock the Bible who are choosing ignorance.
It wasn’t knowledge that was forbidden, but the knowledge of good and evil, i.e. sin. The first science was already there, Adam naming the animals. But the key that sealed the deal was, “You shall be like God”.
To be like God was the Serpent’s original sin (Isaiah 14:14). It is at the heart of humanistic aspiration. It is the primal motive of the modern world, of politics, commerce, education. It is where technology and AI are taking us. Soon merely thinking of something will make it so. We will create a better world, heaven on earth, just without God. We will be like God.
The original deception was that God is unfair. He withholds knowledge from us, because he knows we will be like him. So we will take what is rightfully ours and fix the problems God created.
Listen to where we are today… It is not fair that some people are born male or female. Or that some have more than others. Borders are not fair. Putting people in jail is mean. It is not fair that people have to work or pay rent or put food on the table. Sickness is not fair. God is not fair.
And so let us build a perfect society where everything is fair. Utopianism, Socialism, Marxism, Fascism, Communism, etc. No one should have more than others. You can be any gender you want. Ultimately technology will allow us to transcend the human and live forever, merging mind with machine. We don’t need God. We will be our own gods.
How funny that the trajectory of the modern world is explained in a few words in the first few pages of an ancient book from thousands of years ago. The future has already been written. Deception is the Serpent’s path.
“And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world...”
Revelation 12:9
“But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.” 2 Tim 3:13
