Refreshing Pause
There is nothing finer
than a pause in life
When weather runs foul
And mayhem slows down
The skies turn sullen
Frenzy eases off
Endless toil is shelved
Till the tempest fades
Some folks see a downpour
As a rude delay
But to me it’s mercy
A chance to still the soul
A moment to renew
To breathe the washed air
The aroma of wet earth
The purge of dust and drought
The burst of emerald growth
Swelling lakes and streams.
I cherish a fierce storm
Above the clamor of days
When urgency is lifted
By the gift of quiet repose
