Outrage Algorithm
I had AI create an image of the outrage algorithm that influences us through social media and has us at each other’s throats. Instead of a demon, it appears as a slick salesman, empathetic and trustworthy.
If you analyze Satan’s tactics throughout the Bible, he never appeared evil. He always came along side as a friend, empathetic, a trustworthy advisor, caring and just trying to be helpful.
This is how the algorithm appears to us and shapes us. The media, politicians, and now the Internet which thinks for itself.
We are always being formed by something. We are what we think. We are fed outrage and disgust that makes us feel like the sane ones and the other side deranged. We simply cannot fathom how they could support their side, how they could oppose ours, and before long, they no longer seem human.
Behind the curated content that shapes your beliefs into a malformed version of allegiance is someone—or something—pouring billions of dollars to disciple you into their image.
Jesus called out the social media of his day, the religious and political authorities that controlled the public narratives. The same spirit was behind them.
“You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” John 8:44
So, we should guard what goes into our eyes and into our minds. Let it be truth, not lies.
“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!” Matthew 6:22-23
