# Liberty Bell

The inscription on the Liberty Bell is found in Leviticus 25:10, 

*“Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof”.*

On July 8, 1776, the Liberty Bell rang from the tower of Independence Hall, summoning the citizens of Philadelphia for the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence, which states:

> “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Perhaps the meaning of liberty was intended to be deeper than merely a national one. In other words, our liberty and rights do not come from the government, but from a higher authority
