Christian Take on Stoicism
This video says what I have been saying for years…
If Christianity is true, and truth is universal, then anyone should be able to see it. (Rom 1:19,20) Stoics taught that virtue is the highest good and that we should live according to our true nature. Since we are created in the image of God, this yields something Christ-like.
Stoics, like Solomon, understood the meaninglessness under the sun. Christ is the Logos the Stoics spoke of. He taught the eternal truths that are beyond the sun, heavenly things which give life meaning.
Because such deep truths about life are discoverable for those who seek them, this proves that what can be known about God is available to all, because he has put it in our hearts.
An atheist is not someone who doesn’t know about God, but someone who knows and rejects him.
“For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.” Romans 1:19-20 ESV
